Sometimes while playing GTA V, the game can be very boring once the story is finished. But this is not something which cannot be dealt with. In order to make the game a little interesting, mods have been introduced. Modding is the one feature which gives PC players an edge over console players.  So in this blog we will provide step by step knowledge on how to install mods in GTA V. So let’s begin.

In order to start modding the GTA V, one thing you need to make sure is that you have an unmodded game. If not than you need to reinstall the game all over.

  1. The first step is to download tools which are required to install mods in GTA V. The tools are mentioned below:
  • ScripthookV
  • NET
  • OpenIV
  • Rage Plugin Hook (Non-Pirated/Cracked GTA ONLY)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (Or Above)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 (Or Above)

  1. Now the next step is to install Microsoft. .NET Framework 4.5.2 and C++ Redistributable 2015 and restart your computer.
  2. Now unzip the files from ScripthookV and ScripthookV.NET to your main GTA V Directory.
  3. ScriptHookVDotNet has the scripts inside a separate folder in the GTA V root folder, so create a scripts folder in there and the scripts which you download will go there.
  4. Now install OpenIV and after it opens, select “GTA V for Windows.” It should then ask you to locate your main GTA V directory. You should already know where that is by now.
  5. Now go to tools and install ASI loader and OpenIV.ASI if they haven’t been installed.
  6. In order to keep your game clean, you need to create a separate mods folder.

Now coming to downloading mod files. There are number of websites from which you can download mod files but the most valid sites are:

Now let’s move towards installing mods.

  • Vehicle mods are such mods whose original file is normally replaced. In order to replace the resource file, we need to use Open IV. Instruction regarding the files which need to be replaced will be provided to you in the folder of the downloaded mod.
  • There are mod files which are marked as add-ons, which mean that the original files are not replaced but the mod files are added as add-ons. These files are added in the dlc.
  • The data files are placed in GTAV_root/mods/update/x64/dlcpacks/<mod name>/dlc.rpf
  • The entry is added to dlclist.xml. The exact location is GTAV_root/mods/update/update.rpf/common/data/dlclist.xml. This entry looks like <Item>dlcpacks:<mod name></Item>
  • Always take a good look to the opening and closing tags of the files when adding an entry to dlclist.xml. If they are different, the file is invalidated.
  • .OIV files are package mods. These mods can be installed quickly with OpenIV. Only double click the file and OpenIV package installation prompt will pop on the screen. These mods can add files and/or replace files so install these packages with care so that the game won’t become corrupt.

What are Scripts?

Scripts are the files which add extra features in the game. These features can be in the form missions or in the form of trainers.

Location of files:

  • The files with the extension .asi need to be in the root directory of GTA V.
  • The files with the extensions like .dll, .cs and .vb need to be in scripts folder of the root directory of GTA V.
  • RAGE Plugin Hook go in the GTAV_root/Plugins/ folder.

Updating Mods:

In order to update mods there are two methods which depend upon the file.

  • Some mods needs only re installing of the files because the author of the mods hasn’t changed the extension of the file.
  • Sometimes author change the configuration of the files so you need to add the new files and new to delete the old ones.
